Common questions about buying from SA Washline: where we deliver and install, how to pay, and our return and cancellation terms.

  • Yes, delivery and installation are included in the areas we cover. Coverage depends on the product, because some lines are only installed where we have a trained installer for them, so each product page lists its own service area. As a guide:
     

    • Most lines: Johannesburg, Midrand, Centurion and Pretoria, within 10km of the city centre

    • Some lines: also available in Cape Town, Garden Route (George and Mossel Bay), Polokwane, and Umhlanga


    In the Johannesburg and Pretoria areas, you can usually expect installation within a few working days of your order, and we confirm the timing when you book. If you're outside the listed areas, message us and we'll tell you what's possible and what it would cost.

    If your ground is rocky or full of rubble, installation can take a little longer, since we need extra time to set the poles securely.

  • You can read our full return policy on our Refund Policy page. If something isn't right, message us on WhatsApp and we'll help you sort it out.

  • Two options: EFT bank transfer, or credit card through Yoco at checkout. You'll get an order confirmation either way before we schedule your installation.

  • Orders that are placed and then cancelled are subject to a 15% handling fee.

Wall-mounted Foldaway Washlines

SA Washline's wall-mounted foldaway washing lines are powder-coated aluminium frames that fold flat against the wall when not in use, ideal for smaller or shared spaces, and they carry a 5-year frame guarantee.

    • 1.0m wide and 0.8m deep: shirts, trousers, towels and smaller items

    • 1.5m wide and 0.8m deep: fits a single sheet

    • 2.0m wide and 0.8m deep: fits a double sheet

    • 2.3m wide and 0.8m deep: fits a queen-size sheet

    • 2.6m wide and 0.8m deep: fits a king-size sheet

  • Our most popular size is 2.3 metres wide by 80cm deep. It has 6 lines spaced about 11cm apart, giving roughly 13.5 metres of hanging space, and it takes a queen-size fitted sheet or duvet cover without folding. The biggest frame we make is 2.6 metres wide by 80cm deep, which handles king-size sheets.

    As a rule, we suggest not going bigger than that. The longer the line the more line sagging happens. It's better to add a second or even third line and place them n different locations to catch the morning and afternoon sun. It's also worth putting one under cover for the rainy season.

  • Follow these steps:

    ​

    1. Make sure the wall surface is flat. Uneven walls or walls with posts need special spacers to prevent the supporting back bar from catching on the wall.

    2. Measure the wall space you have available.

    3. Subtract 100mm from that measurement. This gives you the largest size that will fit comfortably within the available space.

    4. Order the standard size that fits within that maximum, or ask us to build you up a custom size.

  • Yes. We can build the width anywhere between 1.0m and 2.6m. There are two depths: the standard 0.8m, which gives 6 lines, and a 0.56m, which gives 4 lines. Custom sizes take 5 to 7 working days to be made up and there is small additional charge for this service.

  • To hang bedding without folding:

    • King-size bed: 2.6 x 0.8m line

    • Queen or double bed: 2.3 x 0.8m line

     

    By household size:

    • Family of 6: a 2.6 x 0.8m line as a minimum, or a combination of two lines

    • Family of 4: a 2.3 x 0.8m line as a minimum

    By washing machine load:

    • One standard load of washing (25 - 30 kg): a 2.6 x 0.8 or 2.3 x 0.8m line per load

  • The washing line frame and supporting brackets are designed to carry up to 30kg in total balanced weight over the entire frame. We recommend spin-drying your washing first, and hanging heavier items on the back lines using just two lines.

    The front supporting bar can also be used as long as the total weight of the washing does not exceed 30 kg (a standard washing machine load of washing).

  • We offer 3 colour finishes in this range: Charcoal, Bronze (dark brown) and White.

  • A 2.3 x 0.8m and 2.6 x 0.8m washline comfortably holds a standard full load of washing (25 - 30 kg).

  • We recommend mounting it about 1.8 metres above ground level, which keeps it easy to reach and lets longer items hang clear of the ground.  The washline can however be mounted at any height suitable to your needs.

  • Yes, we've fitted many. The 1.5 x 0.8m foldaway washing line usually attaches to the upright pillars without much trouble. The larger washlines require additional aluminium spacers to be installed to ensure the washline frame is installed parallel to the wall and the back supporting bar does not catch on the wall upright pillar. The aluminium spacer blocks are fixed to the horizontal wall panels, which entails drilling through them. If the wall is shared with a neighbour, it's best to get their okay first, since the hole tends to break out bigger on the opposite side and the fixings protrude on their side.

  • The frames are made from 25mm x 1,5mm aluminium square tube, drawn from our own die so you don't get the die lines and flaws you'd see on cheaper tube. All machine screws are stainless steel, and the eyelets the line threads through are UV-protected nylon for a neat finish. The corner blocks are solid, UV-protected and carry a 5-year guarantee, and the stay arms make lifting and lowering the line simple.

    Why powder coat? Untreated aluminium doesn't rust, but it can oxidise into a chalky white film that spoils the look and can mark your washing. A powder-coated finish protects against scratches, chipping, corrosion and fading, and gives a clean, lasting result.

  • Yes. They're powder-coated aluminium, so they won't rust and the colour won't fade. All the machine screws are stainless steel.

  • A 4mm PVC-coated non-stretch line, finished to handle the weather. The frame is professionally epoxy powder-coated for an attractive, weatherproof finish.

  • Yes. The line takes the brunt of the sun and will eventually stretch or perish, much like a wiper blade. Our team comes out, fits fresh line, checks and replaces perished grommets, and services the moving parts. See our Relining and repairs section for more.

  • Yes, a 5-year guarantee on the frame. This doesn't cover the drying line itself, which is a wear item: none of the lines suitable for the job are UV-protected, so we fit a thumbnut clasp that makes replacing the line quick and easy when the time comes.

T-Pole Washing Lines

SA Washline's T-pole washing lines are heavy-duty steel posts set in concrete and strung with tensioned line, built for larger gardens and full laundry loads, with a 5-year guarantee.

  • A T-pole line is the workhorse choice for a larger garden. Two sturdy steel posts carry several full-length lines, giving you plenty of hanging space with nothing to fold or pack away. It's a permanent, heavy-duty line built for families with a lot of washing.

  • The standard posts are 60mm steel with a 3mm thick wall, finished in gloss black to stand up to daily use and the weather. We also offer a hot-dipped galvanised version for extra rust resistance, worth considering if the line will take a lot of sun and rain. The posts and lines carry a 5-year guarantee.

  • PVC-coated galvanised steel wire rope, held with galvanised eye bolts. The steel core keeps the lines taut under a heavy load instead of sagging like rope or plastic, while the PVC coating keeps your washing clean and protects the wire from the weather.

  • Plenty. The standard line runs four strands between the posts, and we also make a robust 5-line version for even more space. With up to 5 metres between the posts, you get long, full-length runs that swallow sheets, towels and bedding.

  • The posts can sit up to 5 metres apart, so most people run them along a back fence or down the side of the garden where there's a clear stretch and good sun. We set the lines at about 1,8 to 1,9 metres high, comfortable to reach while keeping long items off the ground.

  • The T-Pole is a permanent installation. The posts are set 500mm into a concrete foundation so they stay rock solid under a heavy load. The concrete needs about 48 hours to cure, so please leave the line unused during that time. We'll ask you to be on site to confirm the position before we dig, and if your ground is rocky or full of rubble the job can take a little longer.

  • Yes. Alongside the fixed posts, we offer a T-pole washline on wheels, so you can roll it into the sun through the day and tuck it away after. It's handy if your sunny spot shifts with the seasons or you'd rather not commit to one fixed position.

Rotary Washing Lines

SA Washline's rotary washing lines are hot-dipped galvanised 4-arm lines that give 26 metres of hanging space in a compact footprint, ideal for medium-sized gardens, with a 5-year guarantee.

  • A rotary line packs a lot of hanging space into a small footprint, which makes it a great fit for a medium-sized garden. It spins freely, so you can stand in one spot and turn the line towards you as you hang, and it catches the breeze from every direction to dry your washing faster.

  • About a full wash at a time. Ours is a 4-arm line, 3 metres across, giving roughly 26 metres of total hanging space, enough room for a large load including sheets and towels, all within the footprint of a single post.

  • The frame is hot-dipped galvanised mild steel, which handles the weather and resists rust far better than a painted finish. The drying line itself is a UV-tolerant 2.5mm polyester braid in white or black, so it stands up to the sun. The frame is covered by a 5-year guarantee.

  • Not much on the ground. Because it rises from a single point and the arms spread above the garden, it takes up far less space than a fixed line of the same capacity. You just need enough clear room for the arms to turn without catching on a wall, tree or fence.

  • We set it at about 1,8 to 1,9 metres, comfortable to reach while keeping longer items off the ground.

Reline and Repairs

SA Washline relines and repairs worn washing lines across Gauteng, fitting fresh line and servicing your existing frame for a fraction of the cost of replacing it, usually within 3 to 5 working days.

  • Relining replaces the worn line and fittings on your existing frame so it works like new, for a fraction of the cost of a full replacement. If your frame, poles or posts are still sound, there's usually no need to replace the whole thing. Our team comes to you, so there's nothing to uninstall or transport.

  • We reline rectangular frame (wall-mounted foldaway) lines, T-pole lines, and rotary lines. We can also refurbish older frames, poles and posts. So, whether it's the line that's gone or the frame that's tired, there's a service for it.

  • Not the cheap collapsible ones. On flimsy collapsible rotary lines, the line can't be tensioned properly and quickly sags again, so we don't reline those, since the result wouldn't meet our standard. If that's what you have, we'd suggest upgrading to a robust galvanised rotary line, which can be tensioned and relined properly.

  • More than just new line. On a foldaway, we remove and replace the old line, check and replace any perished grommets, and service and oil the moving parts and brackets. On a T-pole, we fit fresh line and replace the eye hook tensioners, which are usually rusted by the time a reline is needed. You choose the line type, either a PVC-coated galvanised steel rope or a polyester braid rope.

  • Yes, we can refurbish as an add-on to a reline. We sand off the loose paint and rust, apply a rust converter, and repaint in gloss enamel, in white, black or heritage green. It's a good way to make an older frame look and last like new while the line is being replaced.

  • Your washing line needs relining if your washing sags or droops, or the line looks cracked, brittle or has snapped, it's time. South Africa's sun is hard on washing line, and over the years it stretches and perishes, much like wiper blades. The frame itself usually outlasts the line several times over.

  • You can replace the line yourself, but a proper reline gives you the correct line tension, fresh fittings, a serviced frame and the right line fitted properly. Hardware-store line often sags or wears out quickly because it isn't made for the job. For a sound frame, a professional reline is the better long-term value.

  • Most relines are completed within 3 to 5 working days of your order. We'll confirm the timing with you when you book, so you know exactly what to expect.

  • Relining and repairs are available across Gauteng. For jobs on the outer edges of Gauteng there's a small additional charge. We're also working to bring the service to Cape Town, the Garden Route and Durban as we grow and train our installer team there, so if you're on the coast, message us on WhatsApp and we'll let you know what's possible. If you already use a reliable handyman, please refer him to us to get qualified as an Approved SA Washline Installer.

  • Pricing is set per service and depends on what needs to be done. Our services are listed on our relining page, so you're always seeing the current rate. You also save when you reline more than one line at the same address.

Clothing Pegs

SA Washline supplies laundry pegs built to outlast plastic: single-piece Grade 304 stainless steel pegs that last a lifetime, and 100% recycled, hard-to-break Increda-pegs.

  • They're made from a single piece of Grade 304 stainless steel wire, with no spring or hinge to work loose, so there's nothing to snap. Where plastic pegs go brittle and break in the sun, these keep their grip and are built to last a lifetime. You buy them once.

  • A lifetime, near enough. Because each peg is formed from one continuous piece of wire, there's no weak point to give way, so they outlast plastic pegs many times over. The recycled Increda-pegs are built for years of hard use too, so either way you're off the treadmill of replacing snapped pegs every summer.

  • The stainless steel pegs come 20 to a bag, packed in a reusable double-drawstring cotton bag. The recycled Increda-pegs come 180 to a bag.

  • The stainless-steel pegs are Grade 304 stainless steel, so they resist rust and weathering and suit most of South Africa well. If you live right on the coast, where salt air is much harsher, our recycled Increda-pegs are a fully rust-free alternative that won't corrode at all.

  • The Increda-pegs are made from 100% recycled plastic, so they're a sustainable choice, and they're proudly South African. They're hard to break, weatherproof and rust-free, which is why people get years of use out of them rather than a single season.

  • The Increda-pegs especially earn their keep well beyond the washing line. People use them for sealing food bags, tidying cables, gardening, and keeping gear in order when camping. They grip firmly without snapping, so they handle jobs that break ordinary pegs.

  • Paying more for durable pegs are worth it, because you buy them once. Cheap plastic pegs snap, lose their grip and end up in the bin within a season or two. A bag of stainless steel or recycled pegs lasts for years, works out cheaper over time, and keeps plastic out of landfill.
