  • What sizes do you suggest for bedding and large laundry loads?
The Foldaway comes in a variety of sizes. Our most popular seller is our 2,3 meters long by 80 cm wide. This washing line has 6 lines spaced approx. 10 cm apart and provides approx. 13.5 meters of hanging space. This washing line will accommodate normal queen size fitted sheets and duvet covers without having to fold them back. We have found this washing line to be the ideal size. The longest washing line that we manufacture is 2,6 meters long. This washing line caters for king size sheets. As a rule, we recommend that you do not go bigger than this. It is much better to purchase a 2nd and even a 3rd washing line should these not provide you with sufficient hanging space. In this way you can place your washing lines strategically to cater for the morning and afternoon sun. You may also consider installing one under cover to cater for the rainy season.
  • Size, as per wall space for your Foldaway Washline?
Follow these steps to size the wall space: Ensure that the wall surface is flat (Uneven walls or walls with posts need special spacers). Measure the wall space you have available for your foldaway washline. Subtract 100mm from your measurement. This will give you the maximum size foldaway washline you can order for that space. Order the standard size foldaway washline that will fit within this maximum measurement or request a custom size foldaway washline. Feel free to contact us if you are still unsure.
  • Can the sizes be customised?
Yes, the width of the washline can be customised between 1.0m and 2.6m. We have 2 depths available - the standard 80cm which provides 6 lines and a 56cm which provides 4 lines. The lead time for custom sizes is 3 - 4 work weeks.
  • How much line space do I need for my washing?
To hang king size bed sheets without folding them you will require: King Size Bed: 2.6m washline. Queen or Double Bed: 2.3m washline. How many people are there in your house? A family of 6: 2.6m min or a combination of two lines A family of 4: 2.3 min
  • What weight can the Foldaway Washline carry?
The washlines are designed to carry 30kg of weight. We recommend spin drying all washing before it is hung. Heavier items should be hung on the back lines and only 2 lines to be used.
  • What colour does the foldaway come in?
Our standard colour is White (ANP 1052 Gloss), We do provide two other colours as an optional extra, Bronze (Dark Brown) and Charcoal. There is an additional charge for either of these two colours.
  • How much washing can the Foldaway Washline carry?
A 2.3m washline can carry a standard full load of washing.
  • How high are the Foldaway Washlines mounted?
    Recommended 1.8m above ground level.
  • Can a Foldaway be installed on Vibracrete walls?
We have installed many of our washing lines onto vibracrete walls. Our 1.5 meter foldaway can normally be fitted to the upright pillars without much effort at all. When it comes to the larger washing lines there are however a few little complications. The Foldaway has a back bar (for additional strength) and so ideally you need a flat wall for mounting. This can however be overcome on vibracrete walls which are not flat due to the upright supporting columns by using aluminium spacer blocks. The spacer blocks are attached to the vibracrete panels, but it does mean that we may need to drill through the panels. In the case where the vibracrete wall is shared with a neighbour you preferably need to get their permission as it may look a bit untidy on their side. Ideally your washing line should be mounted at a height of about 1, 85 meters.
  • What materials are used for the frames?
Our foldaway washing line frames are made from 25mm x 1.5mm aluminium square tube. We have our own square tube die which means that imperfections such as die lines and other manufacturing flaws are eliminated. All machine screws used are stainless steel. We have recently upgraded our washing line eyelets through which line is threaded from plastic to UV protected nylon which gives a neat professional finish. We only use solid strong corner blocks which are also UV protected and come with a 5 -year guarantee. The Foldaway Washing Line has simple to operate stay support arms for lifting and lowering the washing line. Why Powder Coat? Untreated aluminium does not rust, but it can oxidize to form a chalky-white substance in place of rust. When a new aluminium surface is exposed in the presence of air or any other oxidizing agent, it quickly develops a thin, hard film of aluminium oxide. This oxidization will result in the appearance of the aluminium deteriorating. It will also have the potential to soil your laundry. The most popular trend used my modern property developers is to install aluminium powder coated window and doors. This achieves an acceptable finish to a building’s appearance. Powder coatings offer a product greater protection from scratches, chipping, abrasions, corrosion, fading, deterioration, and general wear.
  • What materials are used for the lines?
The lines are made of a 4mm PVC coated non-stretch line. Our washing lines are professionally epoxy powder coated to provide an attractive weatherproof finish.
  • Are the washlines rust proof?
Yes, they are powder-coated aluminium which will not rust, and the colour does not fade. All machine screws used are stainless steel.
  • Do you offer a line replacement service?
Yes, we do offer a reline replacement service. We replace the lines of your rectangular frame washing line for you. After time in the harsh South African sun and continued use, the lines on your washline may stretch, crack, and possibly break. They will need to be replaced from time to time just like your car windscreen wiper blades. Our team will come out and professionally remove and replace the old line, check and replace perished grommets. Our team will also service and oil the moving parts of the frame bracket. This ensures your fold-away washline remains in excellent working order and gives you continued good service for many years to come. We also offer this service on other types of frames as well.
  • Does the Foldaway Washing Line come with a guarantee??
Yes, we provide a 5-year warrantee on the washing line frame. The Foldaway Washing Line is a quality product, which is made out of superior materials and should give you many years of good service if it is looked after. Please note that this does not include the actual line used to string the washlines. Unfortunately, all of the makes of lines that we have found to be suitable for the stringing of our washing lines are not UV protected. It is for this reason that we have provided a thumbnut clasp for the easy replacement of the physical line itself which will eventually need to be changed.
